If you would like to fundraise for our charity, but are a little stuck for ideas, we have plenty of suggestions right here.
We know that planning a fundraiser can feel a bit overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Whether you are thinking about doing a sporting challenge, organising a cake sale, or haven’t got a clue what you would like to do, we have put together a list of simple fundraising ideas and information to help you get started.
Sponsored run or walk – Challenge yourself to enter an organised sporting event, it could be a 5k, 10k or event, a half or full marathon or even the three-peak challenge – whatever challenges you at your personal ability or fitness level. Ask friends and family to sponsor you and improve your health and fitness at the same time.
BBQ in the garden – Make the most of the summer sunshine, fire up the barbeque and invite your friends, family, and neighbours over to fill up on burgers or hot dogs, then collect a small fee for the delicious food you’ve cooked.
Car boot sale – It can be such an amazing feeling when you have a good clear out and get rid of some of your unwanted clothes, toys, and homeware at a local car boot sale. All of those things you thought were a pile of trash can be someone else’s treasure and raise money for charity in the process.
Fancy or festive dress – Whether it’s a fancy-dress party, wear your pyjamas at work, or Christmas jumper day you could charge your colleagues a pound or two to take part and then watch the money roll in.
Sponsored silence – Are you are a really chatty person who just loves to talk? Well maybe your friends, family, or colleagues would happily sponsor you to be silent for the day. It’s trickier than you think not to speak a single word for an entire day.
Skydive – Now this one isn’t for the faint hearted and is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re really up for an extreme challenge, which will leave you with white knuckles, maybe think about a skydive as a way to fundraise. Check out this relatively local skydive website for more information.
Cake sale or coffee morning – It doesn’t matter if tea or coffee is more your thing, either way a coffee morning, tea party, or cake sale is a sure-fire way to raise some pretty pennies for our charity and support your local NHS services. Find out how to host a tea party.
Whatever you choose to do to raise money, there are a few simple things you can do to help maximise your chances of success. Here’s a few tips to help you get started.
Fundraisers often tell us they find it helpful if they set themselves a fundraising target. It’s a great way to keep yourself motivated all the way up until the big day. If you’re using JustGiving to collect donations and sponsorship you can adjust your target at any time, so if you exceed your original figure we would advise extending it to keep people motivated to donate.
Lots of companies run match giving schemes, which double the amount of money you raise. Check whether your employer offers match giving and if not, ask if they would like to support your fundraising by making a donation.
Gift Aid is an easy way to maximise your fundraising. Make sure all UK taxpayers tick the Gift Aid box on your sponsorship form. For every £1 they donate, HMRC will give us an extra 25p - at no extra cost to the donor.
